Icelandic Summer wine list and more
Summer in Iceland is here, and I am so excited to introduce to you the Summer Wine List at Klaustur Bar! I have hand-picked a selection of 10 wines to satisfy a range of thirsts. The Summer Wine List has white and red sparkling wines, fruity and spicy white wines, and red wines bursting with flavor. Whether the Icelandic weather is sunny, cloudy, rainy, windy, chilly or warm, this selection of wines will fit your mood and your taste. Albarino from France? Grüner Veltliner from New Zealand? I selected these wines to include quirky, non-traditional grapes so you can experiment, learn, and enjoy with all 10 offered by the glass. The garden patio at Klaustur Bar is a hidden cozy oasis to enjoy a fine wines protected from the elements.
Cremant d’Alsace is a delicate sparkling white wine with all of the characteristics I love of a proper champagne, but with a much friendlier price tag. This cremant smells like warm bread, lemon rind, and pancakes. The tastes range from lemon curd, to crème caramel, and a lovely touch of pound cake.
Lambrusco is always exciting to rediscover. It is a sparkling red wine packed with fruit flavors. It is whimsical and playful on a warm sunny day. On the nose are cassis, blackberry, and black currant. This sparkling tastes of strawberry jam, cherry cola, and blackberry. I recommend having this chilled!
Ros de Pacs is a crowd-pleasing rosé wine. It is round and fruity, balanced so it is neither too sweet or too dry. It has a crisp nose of crab apple, orange zest, and bing cherry, and tastes of blood orange, strawberry, and red cherry.
Blanc de Pacs from Penedes reminds me of a hot Catalonian day. This Chardonnay is full of ripe juicy fruits characteristic of wines from this region. There is a beautiful bouquet of pineapple, citrus, and nectarine on the nose. On the palate you will taste papaya, nectarine, and peach.
